Does anyone know a site where I can purchase my own cable box. I am giving up digital cable and going back to basic but i want to maintain the s-video input into my receiver. Also how will I know which box will work on my cable system? Thanx

I am also giving up on digital cable, but can't go to satellite because I can get no local channels. What I would really like to get is a box that will give me an interactive programing guide like satellite. I am getting tired of the slow scrolling TV Guide channel. Is there any help?
Thanks,
Bill

WBG Have you looked at a Tivo or Ultimate Tv unit. They might give you what you need along with a few extra's.---Dave.

David,
Good thought, I hadn't considered those, but I guess they do work with cable also. All I could think of was some of the newer TVs that have integrated guides. Thanks,
Bill

The Sony slv-20HF VCR gets a free downloaded guidestar channel guide which is great and easy for programming. It worked well with my analog cable although I just got digital cable and it may not work. When I wanted another one and described it at my local A/V store, they told me they knew no VCR like that now and Sony stoppped making the unit. The closest thing would be a TIVO type menu. I bought a second one on Ebay for $185 (was about $400+ new).

Hey, guys, check out two things:

Your cable company most likely has a local-channel-only option for sattelite users.

Circuit City is selling the Philips DSR6000R TiVo Dual Tuner satellite unit for $99! Dual-LNB dish for a penny, and $5/yr. ext. warr. I bought two, and will get two more (4 TVs) this week. A 3-in/4-out or 3-in/8-out multiswitch is available from PartsExpress.com. This will let you tune in two channels (rec. one/watch one or rec.two/watch a recording). Remember that a dual tuner needs two RG-6 feeds, so treat it like two receivers.
