The Tivo web site has a lot of info about the Philips DSR6000R and the Sony SAT-T60. Both companies web sites don't help. From what I can gather they're pretty much the same (price, features, etc.) I've always been a Sony fan, but I like the looks of the Philips. I've read a lot of opinions about the Sony, I don't have a Yamaha Reciever. Does anybody have the Philips?

From what I understand, they are virtually identical electronically. I've had a Phillips stand alone TiVo for about a year and a half and it has performed flawlessly.

I am a fan of Sony equipment, and I have the T60. One additional factor that you may use to decide could be the integration with your other boxes. If you have a Sony VCR, the T60 will turn it on, set the input, and start recording something off of TIVO with single click from the operator. You can do that yourself if you have a Pronto remote control, but the integration is nice.

On the negative side, I have had more problems with the T60, than I expected. I had problems with the IR emitter for the VCR integration, and I have had problems with the T60 remote control.

Good luck.

I have the Phillips Tivo DTV unit. I like it very much. Now if I can figure our how to ditch the Tivo remote and reprogram my Sony AV2000 I'll be happy.

I have a SAT-T60 as well. I'm probably going to take it back and trade for Ultimate TV. I'm sure this will blow Tivo out of the water. The SAT-T60 is very slow surfing channes, and as for waiting on the "Software" availibility of the second tuner, microsoft's will work out of the box. Also if you use DirecTV to recieve you local channels, good luck get Programming information on them. It was easier to record on the VCR than it is having to set up the Manual Recording times for Primetime shows.

I just got my Sony T60 and I must say I'm not sure what people are complaining about, unless they're localized problems. The only annoyance was the wait for the guide to build up, which is generic to the animal regardless of manufacturer.

The switch of locals from the 900 numbers to the 1-99 group was a slight annoyance to reprogram, but a good move going forward. As to guide problems with the locals, huh? My local programming is all there for at least a week. I'm in the NYC area, FYI.

I found the Tivo guide format far more to my liking than the Sony DirecTV guide, which in general was better than than most. Seeing the next 8 program events at a time for a particular channel is for me.

One small but real annoyance is that it doesn't seem to respond to the discrete On - Off commands. Fortunately I have the RF module for my T2 remote. I had no problem programming the finicky T2 for the Tivo commands from the T60's remote.

Overall I love this unit.

Cheers,

DJ
