As an outdoor antenna seems not to be an option for me, I'm looking for a good indoor HDTV antenna.

I already have a "flat" indoor antenna that sticks on the window, and is amplified through USB power, but the reception is very bad.

Is there a better alternative for an indoor antenna? I cannot trust the amazon reviews as they compare apples with oranges (i.e. reviews from different areas with different signal strengths).

This completely depends on location. Where are you in relation to the broadcast antennas you are trying to receive from? Modern homes are great at blocking radio waves. Most of those antennas are pretty directional, so you will need to ensure it is pointing the correct direction. Also, try a more powerfully amplified antenna, than one with simply USB power.
