This may be the wrong section (sorry if it is).

But I was thinking about something.

I'm in Canada, - there are NO Cable Card options up here - only set top boxes.

Does anyone know if a Cable Card from the U.S. would work up here?

Yes, I'm openly looking for a way to have digital and HD TV without the top box. I don't plan on taping anything from it - and will NEVER get a top box due to how much crap is involved with setting it up. (Personal issues).

My TV has a slot for a Cable Card...... which is no good here in Canada.

Any help would be great.

1. The cable company would have to have support for the cable card to program it.

2. Any cable card you could find to purchase would have to be stolen, they are only available to cable companies as are the current set top boxes.

My set also has a cable card slot, but I am in the same boat - useless for now. Sure would be nice to have that option over more wires/boxes that aren't necessary...

I'm in Canada as well and am still looking for a way to actually purchase a cable card. I know people that know people that could get it authorized (legally just in case you were wondering), but I need to find one first!

my .02 about cable cards....they do not work! at least in my area Richmond, VA. Comcast has had about an 85% faliure rate for every one I have tried to have installed. IF you do get one, and it actually works, you end up losing all of the menu options that come with the cable box, such as channel info, guide info, and unless you have a built in PVR into the video display device you will have to add one, if you want it, most cable company boxes have a PVR option. SOOOOOO even though you MAY gain some image quality (depending on the quality of the tuner) by going to a cable card for your lower channels, it still makes no difference as far as the HD channels. minus the fact that most boxes have a DVI output that as far as quality goes is shady at best (lots of artifacts) so you end up using the component video...not too much of a big deal, at least you don't end up with artifacts...
What part of "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." do you not understand?
