Has anyone heard when this unit will be released? I have heard rumors that it would be out in July. If anyone has an answer, would you also know who will be manufacturing it (Philips, maybe?) Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Probably won't be out until last quarter of the year. I have heard either Phillips or Hughes but I didn't get the info from anyone I would put money on.

Any idea whether it will support HDTV? I know that TiVo/replay devices currently do not offer HDTV compatability.

It will not support HDTV but will support Dolby Digital. Also, it is for directv only...no inputs for antenna or cable.

Another good question is, does it record the actual digital signal, or will it record after the signal is converted?

I have been told that it records the digital signal off of the satellite. In doing this, you would have 30 hours of "best" quality recordings. The only drawback to this, since there is not an MPEG decoder, is that you could only record DirecTV and not cable or off-air programming. In my situation, it is not that big of a deal since I have local channels from DirecTV and I hear that WB and UPN will be available soon.
