I have seen a few references that people have been having problems with the Sony WEGA's. I am thinking about buying one of the 36" models and am wondering what problems are people having.

Thanks

Kirk,
I have the 36 inch XBR. On my first set, I had a little wave action going on due to the inside of the flat screen being a bit distorted. I paid a couple of hundred extra bucks to have a local dealer rather than mail order. I simply had to call the dealer to replace the set, and the next day I had one. I have used video essentials to tune the set and its great. I have looked at similar priced HDTV ready sets and they don't compare with an analog signal. I do suggest that you get the service manual from Sony. It's 13 bucks and has all the parameters (about 300) for the control settings in the TV. It even has schematics. Being an electrical engineer, I have already made a few hardware changes, more for the obsession than for any obvious defects in the set. I don't suggest getting into the hardware, but the TV does have quite a bit of versitility in tuning. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 8.

Just for another data point...
I've had a 36XBR200 for over a year and a half. I've had zero problems with it and couldn't be happier. I personally think it has one of the finest pictures you can find on a CRT. I've had many friends (who don't share my obsession with audio/video gear) comment on how amazingly three dimensional the picture is.

I have minor problems with my 36XBR200 but from what I have been told its an easy fix when I get the service manual. My friends love it, unfortunately they won't leave.
