I am about to install my first satellite system. The only question, or concern I have is how to properly ground the system. Should I ground the system on the exterior of the house where the phone is grounded? Or, can I safely ground the system in the attic using the ground from one of my power outlets there?

Rowen, the proper method is to ground the dish mount itself, and the cable just before it enters the house.

The dish should be grounded using a #14 or larger (smaller number) wire run from the green screw (that should have come with the dish) to a driven ground rod using as straight a path as practible.

The cable(s) should be grounded using a grounding block, which is basically a (or a pair of) dual-ended female connector(s) in a metal bracket with a grounding screw, and also a #14 or larger wire. (use weather-proofed plugs, that have O-rings in them)

Larry, thanks for your reply. I was able to ground the system based on you input.
