Sony remote forum,

I have comcast and have the almost useless xfinity remote control.
I would like to program my Sony RM-Y165 remote to work with the
comcast digital converter box. Is this possible?

Thanks for any reply.

That's odd. Those comcast remotes are usually JP1 remotes with nearly infinite possibilities, much more functional than any sony. At least the comcast remote can usually do macros, volume punch through, key moves, key copies, advanced codes, favorites, mulit-macros, shifted functions, and even more if you buy or built an interface cable for it. The sony can do none of that.

HERE's a page detailing many of the things your comcast remote can do. And HERE's another detailing what it can do with a JP1 cable.

If you still want to get the sony to work, just try all the cable codes (there are only 10 or so). If none work, you're out of luck.

mdavej,
Thanks for the reply.

I don't have a cable box on this tv so the remote in question
is one that comes with a comcast digital converter box.
It's a very simple remote that will just change channels and
adjust the volume. It won't let me skip channels, doesn't
display the time, has no favorites list etc.

Couldn't figure out how to attach a photo here.

You can't, directly. Upload it to an image hosting site then post the link.

OK, the Comcast remote you have is the DTA remote, and it can only control TVs, and isn't programmable.

The DTA uses the XMP IR protocol, which wasn't even invented at the time the Sony RM-Y165 was made, so it isn't going to work either.

If you get a Comcast DVR remote with a red OK/Select button (<$6 on EBay), setup code Cable 1982 will control the DTA.

Get a RCA RCRP05B for < $20, and you'll be able to control nearly anything.  It is programmable in the same way that mdavej mentioned.

The picture is the Dleta DTA remote.

Yes for the RCA, use setup code Cable 1982 to control the DTA.

3FG,
I forgot to ask the most important question.

Am I going to be able to skip channels with this remote?
Not using a favorites list but programming the list that's
located in my Sony TV. skip menu.

I don't know what  a skip menu is.  What model Tv do you have?

3FG,
The tv is a Sony KD-36FS130.

The skip list is in the TV menu and is actually called
"Channel SHOW/HIDE". As it says you specify which
channels to hide and then when you advance through the
channels with the remote it skips the "hidden" channels.

Very nice feature because I don't have to use the favorites
list just surf through the "SHOW" channels.

The xfinity remote doesn't consult this list.

The Show/Hide feature is part of the TV and not the remote.  But the DTA remote doesn't have arrow or Select buttons, so it can't program the TV.

The RCA can handle this without difficulty.
