Does anyone know if the software source code for the remote control unit is available. I would like to make some changes to it.

Not a chance. It's a commercial software (Microsoft) and I don't think they will just hand over their code. :-)

You never know. I have sent a couple of emails, now I will just wait for some replies. If that doesn't work, maybe I will have to reverse engineer it.

Microsoft was contracted to write the software by Harman, so I suppose technically it would be Harman you'd have to start with.
