I really don't know much about remote programming and I recently bought a used HDT 100 Motorola OTA HD tuner used with no remote. I am looking for a universal remote that will control it and will also control by Sony TV, Sony DVD player and maybe my DISH network PVR. I don't know if There is one that will also control the DiSH because it uses UHF control, all others are I/R.

I know that there are some nice remotes out there but I don't want to spend too much on a complicated remote. I would be happy with anything that can control my HD tuner as it is somewhat useless right now. The owner's manual has the Hex Codes for all the buttons but I have no idea what to do with those.

Thanks
Brian

I found the user manual online and saw the hex codes that you are referring to on page 44.

That page states that "The HDT100 uses the RC5 IR protocol with the following codes" and it then goes onto list the codes for each function, but what it fails to mention is what RC5 device code (aka "system code") the HDT100 uses. If you could get that information from Motorola, I could create an upgrade to make a universal remote work this unit.

As for the Dish PVR, that remote sends both IR and RF, so you can easily make a universal remote control it.

Thanks Robman, It looks like I will have to purchase some sort of Learning remote, and then get this RC5 code. In looking at some remotes many are a bit more than I want to pay but I found one that has IR and RF both for $70. It looks nice, but maybe you will know more about it. Here is the model

RCA RCU1010RF 9-Device LCD Learning Remote With RF Transmitter

I have contacted Motorola again for that RC5 code, but I am not sure that I will be able to get it.
