I've just gotten an MX_500 and am totally new to the URC scene.
Followed a few threads here, but sometimes get lost on minor things that are obviously old hat to most of you. So, pls
beare with me on a few newby questions. TIA

First, the Operating Manual describes two approaches to setting it up: Device based, and Activity based. Are these mutually exclusive? IOW, if I set it up to work for each of my devices can I then go on and set it up to turn everying on needed to play a DVD?

Second, does "punching through" have side effects? For example,
if I set it up to emulate the remote for the amplifier under the Audio button, and then set up the DVD with a punch through to volume and mute, will the those controls still work when I select Audio?

Third, the factor set labels under each device are not intuitively obvious to me. For example, under TV the first label is T/V. When I use the preprogrammed codes to set it for my Mistsubshi (a rather old bigscreen) this button seems to function as the Input button on the original remote. Yet, there is a different label called Input. So what does T/V stand for? Is there a glossary somewhere that defines these things?

Well, I told you I was green....

BTW, IRCLONE is dropping out, or I'd get theri device to make things easier.

Ok, here's a more specific question. How do I set up the MX-500 to control my Hughes DirecTV Tivo? I have read here that the way to do it is:
1. Main/Ent
2. P-Pro
3. Tivo, the current device position
4 AUX
5. 0 9 0
6. Save
7 Main
8. Main

"Tivo" on step 3 is troubles me, as there is no such device lable on my MX-300 which I just received back from URC with complete updates and reset to factory settings. So, I selected DVR as the device in step 3, then AUX for the From table in step 4. However, when I enter 0 9 0 in step 5 it is not accepted... after the last 0 is entered it shows - - - What am I missing?

TIA

Those are my written instructions for mx-500's that lack a DVR device, the codes were under AUX. Seeing that you now have a mx-500 with DVR device, here's how:

1. press MAIN and ENT
2. P-PRO
3. press DVR
4. press DVR again
5. enter 0-9-0
6. SAVE
7. MAIN
8. MAIN

When using the P-PRO codes, you're first asked for what device key you want to program, then you're asked from what device code table you want the code to come from. See any device key can be any type of device, but the code will always come from the original location. On the old mx-500's, the tivo code would come from the AUX code table, which is always the bottom left device key. On your's, it will always be the middle key on the right side.

Ed,

You will probably reach a larger group of MX-500 "experts" if you put your questions about that model on the Home Theater Master forum. All the MX-500 owners there don't necessarily read this forum as well.

All the best,

Bruce
