Hello to all,

When I was buying my first universal remote, I was looking for a control of any device from one gizmo.

Now universal remotes surprise with their functions. Still, the TV-B-Gone became the leader of universal remotes sales during the last 2 weeks though it had only one function - to switch off the TV .

So , what are you looking for in a universal remote?

Sorry, I didn't know where to put this thread right, so it's both here and at Home Theater Lounge.

My needs are simple, I want one remote that will control absolutely every function for every device in my HT system, plus I want to be able to program macros to make everything easier. I want it to have enough buttons for all of those functions, including everything for my two ReplayTV PVRs, and I want to be able to program it from my PC.

Plus, I don't want to pay a whole lotta cash for it either, $50 tops is my limit.

So, what do you think, is it possible?
Rob.

What about time-absorbing process of programming?

Do you need macroes often?

Like anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. My ideal remote would let you use simple 4-digit codes which would get most of your devices up and running (which most functions supported), but for those users that insist on their remote controlling ALL functions for ALL of their devices, the PC programming method would allow that.

You bet! These macros save you time over and over, plus they make things simple for the non-techie members of the family.

Btw, in case you hadn't already figured it out, I wasn't describing a fictitious remote in my previous reply, I was describing the remote that I'm actually using.

Thank you Robman for your reply.

Two more questions: have you ever turned to custom installers? And why have you chosen Radi Shack as your universal remote?

1) No
2) I use the Radio Shack 15-1994 because I think the style of the remote. I was using it before we invented JP1, so JP1 isn't the only reason I selected. However, now that JP1 has been invented, I would never use a non-JP1 remote again. Not only are the remotes very reasonably priced, but JP1 lets you take total control over them so you can make them do just about anything.
