A remote that will learn a sequence of commands and then send them to a receiver when a certain time is reached to change a channel.

The Sony RM-VL1000 has timers. It's got other issues, but it's about as cheap as you're going to get ($44!).

Another option is an old "One For All" Producer 8 remote (or a Radio Shack 15-1995, 15-1935 or 15-1934). These remotes all have Timed Macros and can be found quite cheaply on ebay (ie, $20 to $30 or so).

They don't have learning but they are upgradeable using JP1.

Hi Daniel,

Let's see, the keys don't line up on the LCD. You need to scroll to often. The letters come very easily. Read the user reviews, its a terrible remote.

The thing is it *could* have been a great remote. But there's a lack of component hard buttons, buttons beside the LCD that don't line up with the text on the LCD, poor LCD contrast, no button backlighting, and a couple programming bugs. But, even with these issues, you get a lot of power for $44...

I bought a vl1000 and tried to use it last night but I returned it today. What a confusing remote. I don't think it can do what I wanted to change the channel on a satellite box at set times. The codes would have to be learned also. I spent 4 hours with it and could not get it to work right. The manual is terrible.

Is there any special reason you have to do it this way? What problem are you trying to solve, that requires you to do it by remote?

- most satellite boxes let you set up timers to change channel
- if yours is so old that it can't, consider getting a new one. (DirecTV-Tivo can be had for ~$50-$99!)

If you want to give a "Producer 8" a try, I have a few of them available. What SAT box are you trying to control?
