Do I have any hope of convincing an RCA RCU410MS remote to control my Hughes GXCEBOT DirecTV/Tivo satellite receiver? The remote comes with three codes for Hughes satellite receivers and one for Tivo, but none of them work. (I actually tried the code for ReplayTV PVR and some of the keys work.. but not enough.)

If not, can anybody recommend a simple/cheap remote that will work with this receiver? All we need is the menu/"Tivo" button, menu navigation key, and pause. (We're looking for something relatively simple for the kids to use so we don't want or need every key from the Tivo remote duplicated.)

If there is a tivo code, then it should work your hughes. The standard hughes SAT codes won't. If this tivo code is for sony then it won't control your hughes. Is this tivo code listed under VCR? And are you trying it under SAT? For under $20 I suggest the OFA urc-6131.

Thanks, we actually have the URC-6131 & it's a bit much for the kids. There is just one Tivo code listed for the RCA (140) and the instructions said to program it as a VCR code.. I did & it did not work.

I have the RCA RCU410RS that was sold at radio shack, there isn't a tivo code listed. Have you looked at the Sony vl700? My 82 year-old father uses it, the vl700 is a good learning remote, but it does have a tivo code preset also.
