Sorry, I'm a newbie and bought tihs receiver which unfortunately did not come with a remote. I really just want the remote to setup the volume levels for the speakers/ and their distance from the receiver/etc. Does anyone have a suggestion for a universal remote that can do this? The replacement remote from Pioneer - AXD7178 is $72.00, not worth it.

Thank you very much.

I would suggest the radio shack 15-2116, it still has AMP code 0013 on board. That's the only pioneer code to accept advanced codes(EFC), these advanced codes. Other EFC's include:

CDR/TAPE-061
VCR/DVR-058
DVD/LD-192
TV/SAT-052

Cursor pad:

RIGHT-191
LEFT-195
DOWN-193
UP-189

When you program code AMP 0013, there aren't any commands mapped, so you should map the above EFC's to keys, then switch to RCVR code 1023. The combination of RCVR1023 & the EFC's from AMP0013, make for a well rounded setup code.

Excellent, thank you very much. Will this allow me to use other custom buttons (like the 'Receiver' button to get to surround sound setup)? If so, looks great I will definitely pick one of these up.

Thanks again!

On my Pioneer D711, the cursor pad was all I needed to change settings, the RIGHT & LEFT went through each setting, where the UP & DOWN changed the value of each setting.

Okay I've received my Radio Shack remote and I'm not sure how you are supposed to conifgure it to use AMP 0013? I tried doing a CODE SET but it says that 0013 is not found. I then tried to set the up, down, left, right keys manually to the numbers you gave and it doesn't seem to work (its on 1023 by default). Could you possibly give me some quick direction? Thank you much and sorry for my ignorance.

1. press the device key, AUX or AUDIO
2. press and hold P
3. press SELECT
4. use the down cursor key to scroll to AMP
5. press SELECT
6. enter 0-0-1-3
7. press SELECT
8. press EXIT

To map the advanced code:

A) press AUX or AUDIO
B) press and hold P
C) use the down cursor to scroll to KEYMOVER
D) press SELECT
E) press AUX or AUDIO
F) tap P, do not hold
G) enter 3-digit advanced code
H) press SELECT
I) press AUX or AUDIO
J) pick a key

Now repeat for each advanced code starting from "A)".

Thanks for your reply. I was able to get that working and adjust the speaker sizes/distances/etc. (just using the left and right buttons). I still can't figure out how to adjust the sound level settings for each speaker however. In the instructions they say to press the 1 (DOLBY DIGITAL button) then press the 6 (TEST TONE button) which then produces a tone across each speaker. One is then supposed to use the 9 and 0 (CH. LEVEL +/- buttons) to adjust the volume.

I can't seem to find a test tone button anywhere (and tried many combinations of the codes for the amp 0013 and only found one code -- 234 that would display TEST on the receiver but not seem to do anything else), also can't figure out how do get the number keys correct.. they do not correspond properly in the RCVR 1023 mode nor do the mappings listed in AMP 0013. Any futher suggestions? I appreciate all of your help.

Thanks again

This is my Pioneer remote. It doesn't have a Dolby Digital button. My test tone key is #4. I haven't searched for these, because I have the original remote. Anyways there are some advanced codes that reset my receivers settings, I don't care to search EFC's, sorry. The codes in my first post I got by searching one code at a time. There are only 256 of them, from 000-255, to quickly test a code, tap P then punch in 0-0-0, the command won't fire until the third digit, then move on to the next, 0-0-1 so on. The device will need to be programmed with AMP code 0013.

Okay, thanks for your input. I guess I'll try testing the codes again... I thought I already went through all 256 and didnt find anything that made a tone sound on the speakers... I'll play around with it. Thank you very much for all of your help.
