I just recieved my Samsung 50" DLP (HLN507W). Much to my disappointment, none of my existing Universal Remotes can control everything the way I would like. I have young children, low-tech In-laws/Parents, and baby-sitters, so I am leaning towards a "touch-screen" that can be configured for macro commands...TV..Play DVD, etc.

I have seen posts for setting descrete codes for the Samsung sources for the 61" DLP, and I am making the assumption that they will also work for the 50".

This is a request for recommendations for a remote. The price range I am looking is in around $200. Even that seems high to me..but If that what it takes....

if you want touch screen, then the best thing is a Pronto. The new Pronto TSU-3000 can be had for a bit under 250. You can also get refurbished Pronto TSU-2000 for less then 200. There is a review of the Pronto TSU-2000 in the review section.

Thank you for your reply...

Are there other options besides the touch-screen?? What about the battery life on the pronto? It appear to take 4 AAA...how long would they last?

Don't know how much they last. I have always gotten the charger since my first TS-1000 (the convenience alone is worth the price in my opinion)

as for other remotes, you asked for a touch screen. The others worth looking at are the Harmony remote or the HTM MX-500,700,800

IMHO a touchscreen can be made much easier then a button remote, but the LCD on the Harmony and MX-*00 remotes helps a lot
