Hi all,

I am interested in buying a universal learning remote for my PANASONIC DVD-RV41 DVD/MP3 PLAYER which I never had a remote control, I don't know if it can pick up all features without the orginal remote?

Also for my panasonic VCR, the remote had been broken for long, and ever since I had not been able to set programs for my favorite TV shows, because the front panel does not support this function. I wonder if there any learning remotes can pick up this function, so I don't have to sit and wait for the programs to start and press REC on the front panel to record before I go out.

Is there anyone can help and give me some advice on which brand and model really fits my needs, especially for the Panasonic DVD player and VCR that I don't have the original remotes. Thanks.

A strictly learning remote won't be able to perform any functions for this device. Strict learners require a "teacher" remote, which you don't have. You'd need a remote that has a setup code library, although that type *can* also have at least some "learning" ability. Learning comes from the oem (or other) remote that can issue the IR signals. It can't learn anything from the actual device, since the actual device doesn't emit any IR signal from which to "record".

Also for my panasonic VCR, the remote had been
broken for long, and ever since I had not been

Same above would apply here as well, you don't have a remote that will "teach" the signals to a strict learner.

I assume you have other IR devices as well, at least a TV. I'll also assume you'd rather have one remote operate all three, even IF you still have a functioning TV remote.

I'd suggest a universal that has pre-programmed codes which may work for all your devices, with at least a minor capacity for some learning should the need arise, and that's very likely.

There are several that would "fit the bill". Radio-shack's 15-2116 is a very nice and capable remote that should work well. OFA has several models that would like-wise, the 8811(8810W at wal-mart for 19.63, the cheapest), or the 8910. Assuming "price is a consideration", all of these can be found for 40.00 or less.
