I have a Toshiba 57HX81 RPTV, and I have never used the remote that came with it (CT-90047), it has been in the bag ever since. Just recently when I was programming my new HTM MX-700 I noiced when I put the batteries in that there is a JP1 port in there. I has six holes in the PCB with metal down beneath the surface, and says "JP1" beside it. Does this mean if I got a JP1 cable I could program it with my PC? I noticed on my Cinema 7 (URC7800) that the JP1 port is made of six holes with metal or solder around them on the surface of the PCB. Can anyone help me out here. Would it be just easier to get a rat-shack remote with JP1 than try and program this Toshiba remote?
What JP1 cable would I need for it?

Any comments appreciated.

I just read the manual, and it says the remote has to be re-programmed every time you change the batteries. Maybe I won't even bother with this remote after all. What is a good Rat-Shack remote to get for use with JP1.

Thanks

Here's the info on your remotes. The Toshiba can become a JP1 remote, but it needs two items added, the first is an EEPROM chip and the second is the male 6-pin header that should be soldered into the 6 holes labelled JP1. We have created an RDF for this remote already but we haven't added support to KM or RM yet, due to the fact that only one person in the JP1 group actually has it so far.

The Cinema 7 only needs the 6-pin header and it's ready to go. There is full support for this remote in the JP1 group.

If you're still in the market for a new JP1 remote, I would recommend either the Radio Shack 15-2116 ($30) or the One For All URC_8811 ($25)
