Bought this the other day:

[Link: radioshack.com]

To replace a dead Sony RM745 which according to Sony is replaced by a RM-Y133. However, it seems that even the RM-Y133 is replaced by a remote in the current line of Sony TVs so it's not like I can go to a store and sit there and program my remote. I was told that one can program many universal remotes by a hex code without a working original remote which is my situation. However, the manual doesn't state how.

Now, I've seen the list of Adv. Codes that gives you the Hex code (converted to decimal) for each specific function based on the brand (for me: Sony, i.e. code 0000)

Now, how do I program the RS#15-2103 to overwrite some of the keys to allow direct access to Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, rather than the silly TV/VCR toggle that every uni. Remote has.

i.e. I'd like to program a key to

034 (Video 1)
030 (Video 2)
032 (Video 3)
113 (TV) or is that 243 (TV) ???

Can anybody tell me how to do this with the 15-2103?

Thanks,
Jay

That's all good and fine for the 15-1994 or the 15-1995 but I have a 15-2103 and RS doesn't seem to sell the 1994 or 1995 anymore. (At least the website doesn't list it except for 150-1994 which may imply that it's discontinued).

I did see a way to program a 15-2116 which is the RS one with the LCD screen which I may exchange for but I don't need anything fancy.. just a simply uni. rem. to replace the Sony one that died. I guess there is no way to do that with the 2103?

Programming ueic remotes (One For All, and Radio Shack's) operate unde 2 basic themes: 1. For lcd remotes (menu driven on the lcd), or 2. Non-lcd. Thus, if your 2103 is a non-lcd remote, programming it will be EXTREMELY similar (dang near identical) to how to program a 7800 or 1994, or 2104. Look under the "keymover" function (994 command) in the manual, and use the efc's provided at rob's site for the commands you want to add appropriate for the device setup code you're using for your TV. If you overwrite a existing function, you'll lose the ability to access that function, so you may want to program your input discretes to either an unused button, or a shifted button. The "P" button is the shift button. However, if you use a shifted numeral button, you'll have to press "P" twice, then the numeral key to access it. If you program to a numeral, otherwise, you won't be able to use that numeral to access channels that use that numeral (actually it's just a bugger to), thus the suggestion to do it to a shifted numeral key.
If you program the video-1 input to "1"; the default shift-1 is the "old-1). So to access channel 111, you'd have to press: P,P,1,P,P,1,P,P,1 (see the bugger?). Since in the course of an evening or day, you're more likely to have to access video-1 fewer times than the numeral 1, shift-1 would be a better choice for the video-1 discrete. If you don't watch any OTA tv, then this is all moot.

Thanks folks, I got it to work and while I was at it programmed a VCR and my Echostar PVR501 to it. However, it doesn't seem to translate the PVR controls to the sat/cbl echostar code. The PVR501 has the usual "vcr" like controls for play, FF, rew, pause. However, it seems that none of the codes for the Echostar receivers include the PVR controls. And since the PVR501 comes with a UHF remote, I presume the IR RS 15-2103 is not going to be able to "Learn" these codes, right?

You can certainly try learning them (as the remote probably sends both an IR and an RF signal), plus you can try using the advanced codes.
