I have a Phillips DSS Satellite receiver and a Daewoo Telivision. With the remote that comes with it, I have to select the TV mode and turn the tv on. Then I have to select the SAT mode and use that to turn the channels and operate the SAT receiver.
I would like a learning or programable remote where I can select the SAT mode and operate all of the SAT functions, but ALSO turn the TV on and off and control the volume control without having to switch modes. So every button on the remote would control the SAT receiver except for the power button and volume button which would be programmed to operate the TV.
What is the least expensive remote tha can accomplish this?

Anything with code learning. A moderate One For All remote will cover your exact requirement (7000+ series), but for a little more headroom look to the Sony RM-VL700 (~$35), or for macros go with the RM-VL900 (~$55). Others may have additional suggestions.

The problem here will be the philips sat, there aren't many remotes with a preprogrammed code for it,and philips suffer big time from a toggle bit, which makes useless with a learning remotes.

Actually I think the Sony *may* work OK with learned toggle bits (I seem to remember this on the AV2100, at least).

Let's hope. Alot of people show up on Tivocommunity wanting their Stand alone tivo's to control the philips sat,and there's nothing they can do but replace the philips.

Edmond,
if the remote is a learning remote, would it still matter if I had a Phillips receiver or not? I dont mind programming all the buttons one by one. I just need a remote that will allow me to program signals from different remotes onto one mode (ie SAT mode)
Thanks

You might want to look at a Sima SUR-25. I picked one up for $40.00 on ebay. It's easy to program and it will switch device inputs when you call that particular device screen up. Macros are also easy to program. The only fault I can find with it is that the sleep function will not run a macro although macros run fine with the timer function.

Diamond Dog: the answer is it depends. Philips codes use a toggle bit. simply put, for every button there are two codes, the A codes and the B codes. So if you press 11 what you are sending is 1A, 1B, and if you press 123 you are sending 1A,2B,3A. The problem with some remotes, is that they don't recognize that the code has a toggle bit. So it only learns and sends one code, so that when you press 11 it will send out 1A1A and the equipment that is waiting for a B code doesn't respond to the second code.
