I'm having trouble setting up this remote. I have all RCA devices, TV, VCR, Home Theater, CD player, and DVD. All devices are => than 8 years old. My main problem is that my old home theater remote (the really big RCA that kinda looked like a phone) was pretty good, but didn't work with my DVD player. I really liked the fact that the volume on the old remote was permanently tied to the reciever volume (which is what all audio is routed though of course.) With the 810B, the VCR and TV modes, the volume buttons are tied to the TV volume (it even displays this on the LCD.) Is there any way to remap the volume keys in all modes to the TUNER volume? I tried using the learning function, and even though the 810 said SUCCESS, the functions didn't work. Also, it wouldn't learn any special functions from my brand new RCA DVD player, like Zoom, or Multi-angle. Again, it would read SUCCESS, but wouldn't work. I have been successfull in teaching it the TAPE SPEED button for my 8 year old VCR though, so I know it can learn something. Do I just have a defective remote?

BTW, although I am somewhat skilled, I'm not very interested in modding it for JP1. I just don't have the time to learn something new! Anyone ever consider selling modded 810/JP1 remotes? I'm sure there would be a good market for it on Ebay.

Well, I think I've got it figured out, but it's still weird. I had been trying to "teach" the new remote with the 2 remotes about 1 inch apart, and it would tell me it was a SUCCESS, but the remote wouldn't work. I found that if I held them at least 1 foot apart, it would work!

I would still like to know if there is a way to remap the keys from one device to another. It seems stupid that I should waste memory to program the VCR and DVD controls so it will adjust the volume of the home theater reciever (instead of the default TV volume) when the remote HAS the code built in already, but only by selecting AUD, which of course kicks on the radio tuner!

First try the volume lock feature, but if this doesn't do exactly what you want, you will need to use learning.

However, there is a way to copmpletely re-program the remote, and that's called JP1, details [Link: hifi-remote.com]
