There were several previous threads that asked about IR Learning on the 810 stating that every time they attempted it, the LCD stated "ERROR". I had the same thing happen but only AFTER I replaced the batteries. I exchanged it for a new one and got the exact same symtom. After reading many posts about how sensitive some remotes are to voltage I tried placing a dummy battery in to bring the voltage down to 4.5 instead of 6. Guess what! Works every time. The clock is still wacked but I'm not nearly as concerned about that as the learning capability.

If that is really the case, you may have better luck with NiMh or NiCad rechargeables if you happen to have some. Voltage is 1.25 instead of the alkaline 1.5, and capacity is much higher.
