I don't have that remote and I don't know a place to find info on the web about Zenith remotes, so I can't be of specific help. But your odds aren't great for getting a bookshelf system to work from a universal remote. Especially if the remote is older than the stereo.

Actually, the remote is new - the music system is of 1999.

Would you have any suggestions?

Thanks

I recently tried finding info on the web for Zenith remotes and couldn't find it. And I have never owned a Zenith.

Some generic urc thoughts: Does it list "amps", "receivers", "other", "audio" or anything else that suggests a minisystem in the manual? Even "CD" might work. If not, it may not have minisystem capability at all. If so, does it list Aiwa or Sony? Sony is the parent of Aiwa, it's a possibility they could have similar codes.

Sorry I can't be of more help. You could call/write to Zenith if there is contact info in the manual.

Thanks for the prompt reply , spiky.

You see, the frustarting part is that the manual explicitly lists that AIWA is supported in thier list for CD players.

This remote has 5 buttons - TV , VCR, CBL, DVD and AUX.

The first 3 are self-explanatory, which I set up easily.

I then set up my DISH on the DVD button. Customer support says that any audio component should be set up using the AUX button.

I have tried the two codes provided, viz. 881 and 981 without any luck.

I am intrigued by your idea of using the SONY codes, that may work.

What else, thanks once agin. Also, thanks for the other link.

I will let you know my results.

If you are online, I wanted to update you that I did try the Sony codes as per your suggestion.

Sadly enough, that did not work. Neither AIWA nor Zenith customer support is of any help, all they say is that my music system "may not be compatible".

Let me know your thoughts,

Prasenjit.
