I've got a 2 year old Samsung VR8807 VCR with a remote that does not work. At the same time, my Magnovox TV Remote stopped working also. I purchased a Philips Magnavox Universal Remote and it works most of the functions on both, however, it will not allow me to change a lot of the VCR functions (time, programming etc). Contacted Samsung (Fox International Parts) and they advised the remote (AC59-10342A) is no longer available and no substitute either. Are there any other warehouses that might stock this remote? OR another universal remote that would replicate all the functions?
Any assistance appreciated

I would recommend that you get almost any One For All or Radio Shack universal because both of these brands support a concept called "advanced codes" which allow you to program extra functions using special codes once you have found a working setup code.

For example, let's say that you discover that VCR/0240 is the right code for your VCR, you would then go to my web site and see if I have the advanced codes listed for this device. I do have codes for VCR/0240, which I put together myself using my Samsung SV5000.

Now, let's say that you wanted to program a button to eject tapes, the advanced code listed for eject is 725, so you would then follow the instructions in the manual on my site for assigning advanced codes, and voila, you now have an EJECT button on your remote.

Thanks, will give it a shot. Sounds like a good workaround. Will let you know.

Rob,
I had purchased a Philips Magnavox REM400 with the following features:
REM-400 - 6 Device Universal Learning Remote
Operates TV, VCR, Cable, Audio, DSS and CDAccess all internal menus on TVs and VCRs
Controls VCR while in TV, Cable or DSS mode
Multiple component on/off
2 macro programs
Upgraded/fully enhanced code library
Sleep timer via device menus Permanent memory backup
Operates with 4 AAA batteries

Are you referring to the 2 macro programs such as FC1 & FC2?

Hey Jim,
I have to be honest and I say that I don't understand your question. I was talking about One For All or Radio Shack brand remotes, not Philips, and I didn't say anything about macros.

That being said, you are in luck because the REM400 is actually made by the same company that makes OFA and RS remotes, so you can program the missing functions using advanced codes.

As this won't be mentioned in the Philips manual at all, you should print a copy of the 15-1994 manual from my site, at [Link: hifi-remote.com] , as most of it applies to the REM400.

All the setup codes used by the REM400 are 29 numbers higher than regular Radio Shack codes, so when you go looking for advanced codes on my site, you should deduct 29 from the setup code you are using. For example, if you are using VCR/0269, the Radio Shack equivelent is VCR/0240.

I realise that the concept of advanced codes is probably new to you, so you should read up on them on my site.
