Hi I am doing the annual headache of christmas shopping and I am almost getting the UCommand 525 for a friend. But I learned that he will be getting a Bose Lifestyle system soon and after some digging I found that the Bose Lifestyle system only works with Radio Frequency remote controls. I was wondering if there was a way to make it work with the UCommand 525 through maybe a RF station?

Also does anyone know of any places to get the UCommand in Australia? I could only find the UCommand 515 at Dick Smiths...

cheers,

Doubtful

Hi Doubtful

It's been a few weeks so I too am also doubtful ( that you will return to read this )

I have done a lot of homework on the 515 etc. and besides Dick Smith's I have also seen it at altronics.com.au and Surround Sounds and again at West Cost HiFi. Dick Smith has it going for $168.00 and everyone else is quite a bit more, like $250.00!

I have decided to get the newer uCommand 525 direct from the states. I will make sure I get the Crisp Solutions one because they answered some questions I had very quickly. Although I may find the "same" remote cheaper I don't mind paying more for the added service.

Oh, no I don't work for Crisp Solutions. :)

Good Luck

Liam

I can vouch for Crisp's service, it is good.

But regarding the RF question, to the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as an RF universal remote, so you'll still need to use the Lifestyle remote.

Really, that's cool, could you post some info about it, and better yet, a link to somewhere that people can buy it.

A quick Web search (Google) on +IR +RF turned up a number of hits including [Link: smarthome.com] I don't know anything about the remote, so I can't promise it works with Bose systems.

I tried +IR +RF +Bose to see if I could find the converter jwalkup mentioned, but no joy there.

I can guarantee you that that remote will not work the RF Bose.

Ah, well... :) There were a lot of other hits out there, maybe something else will work.

I did a search myself when jwalkup didn't respond after dropping that one-liner on us, but I found nothing of substance. I suspect, seeing as how he hasn't come back with the answer, that he was just winding us up.

I just received an official reply from Bose this morning. My initial question and their response is below:

Q: I hear rumors of a Bose Infrared/Radio Frequency converter that will allow Bose RF systems to understand signals from IR universal remote controls. Does this in fact exist? If so, where can I purchase one and how much is the suggested retail price? Thank you for your time and attention! -Bruce

Bruce,

The only RF remotes that would be able to operate the Lifestyle system start at about $1000.00. If you are interested in this type of remote, you might start with Crestron. Versatile but expensive.

Thank you for choosing Bose Corporation.

Hello,

There is a simple way to control Bose Lifestyle systems of any type using learning remote controls like the Pronto. If anyone is interested in learning how, please E-mail me directly.
