Just got the new Ucommand 525. As a former 515 owner I’m glad to say that the new 525 is a better remote in all respects. Having hard buttons for volume up/down, channel up/down and transport is a big improvement. Also, the 525 is lighter and fits the hand better. The touchscreen responds well to a light touch, and the backlighting can be set to turn on at varying levels of darkness. It is preconfigured for X10 and even has instructions for executing the dreaded Sony Soundfield commands.

Macros of up to 25 steps and up to 10 second delays can be set on any command button. The unit is a dark blue with a nice light blue backlight. IR strength seems about average, but I’ll let Daniel determine that with the official MTFB test. For about $10 bucks more than the 515, it’s well worth the extra money, IMO.

Looking forward to Daniel’s review. :-)

Re: the Sony Soundfield commands, I don't want to mislead anyone. The manual says that it should work with these commands, but I don't have any Sony equipment to check it out on. Also, if you're interested, you can download the manual at www.crispsolutions.com.

Really late, I know, but I was browsing through forums looking for the answer you just gave me!

I was having trouble deciding between the two 515 or 525 or 515 or maybe the 525... well you get the point! I read reviews etc but I just wanted someone's opinion on which they thought was better.

All this over a AUD$200.00 remote! Ha

Well thanks again.

Liam
