Are there any universal remotes that can receive IR signals for tone control and speaker level adjustments on my Preamp Processor? Basically I'm looking for a replacement for my Sony TA-E9000ES Remote (RM-TP501E) which has several 2-way functions for the EQ and Levels, it needs to send a signal to the pre amp then receive a signal for a pectoral view of the tone controls and gain settings.

There aren't any two-way universals, but you can work all of the Sony functions using a remote such as the Philips Pronto. You would need to download a file for the SOny, but fortunately for you, many people have spent alot of time tinkering with this and there are complete ccf files out there that contain all of the DSP settings, etc

There are also some learning remotes that can handle the Sony signal, but trying to get these remotes to actually learn the signal can be a real pain! You'd be much betterof simply downloading a file that someone else has already created, why re-invent the wheel?

Wht Rob says is true, but you should also look at the Sony RM AV2100 and 900. The first is a touchscreen remote, the second is all buttons. Both these Sony Universal remotes can learn the EQ and Level modes from Sony original remotes. The remotes learn the modes easily; the issue is that the buttons don't access the modes in quite the same way as the original. Basically, you frequently will have to cycle through the modes to get to where you want.

In fact, with Sony processors, there is even a Device code directly accessible on the 2100 for those modes. ... Mike
