I am getting ready to upgrade my dish network receiver to the 4700 series with the optical digital output for dolby digital surround, but I have noticed that the remote that it comes with is a UHF with the IR base.

I currently use a RCA RCU810 with my home theater and dish network echostar 3822, and it works great. Does anyone know if this will work with an upgraded model of the DSS receiver? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The remote that comes with 4700 series is both UHF and IR. The receiver will also accept both IR and UHF commands. I do not have any experience with your remote, but I trained my learning Mitsubishi TV remote with the 4700 remote commands for power and channel as a test, and they work fine.

My RS 15-1994 operates my DISH 4720 just fine.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. Now all I have to do is win a bidding on e-bay for my new receiver!

FYI, ya might want to look at the 4900 model too.
It's newer and may have more features ya want.

I have a dish 4000 & did the IR upfit kit thing, works great. I'd like to add the DD adapter, if I can find one for a good price, last I heard was they were $69.

Anyone know of a cheaper place to buy this adapter?

Thanks, I will check out the 4900 model - is that an IR/UHF remote as well? Also, I am thinking about the Dishplayer 7100 model to cover both DBS receiver and replay TV features. Does anyone know if the 7100 has dolby digital outputs and what type of remotes may work with it? I am not sure if it is solely a UHF remote, or IR/UHF combo.

Thanks again!

I'd guess the 4900 is UHF & IR.

You can visit

and confirm info on all Dish products.

Definetly get the 4900 over the 4700, it has open TV (local weather) and a push back the video so you can see the program guide. Although I do know that the 4700 will be able to eventually get a software upgarde to be just like the 4900. So if the price is a huge difference you could wait for the software upgrade which is coming 'soon' according to Dish. Otherwise they are the same, UHF remote with IR as well. The dishplayer is also a great product which I just heard they are stopping production on (local retailer) so that they can lose the web-tv stuff, does have an optical dolby digital output, but only an IR remote. My friend has it, and loves the hardrive thing ($10 more a month). Definetly better quality then a seperate replay ot tivo.

Well, I was able to get a 4722 on ebay for $125 bucks. A lot cheaper than a new 4922 for $300. I'll check on the software upgrade, and hopefully it will be able to make it like the 4922! Anybody have any ideas as to when dolby digital will be broadcast across the board? I have heard that DD is available only on ppv channels right now.

hey Tom, did the RCA RCU810 work with the 4722? i use the RCU810 with a 4700 and it works just fine. only (minor) complaint is that i have to aim the remote in the general direction of the 4700 (not necessary with stock UHF remote). -- ed.

I haven't received the 4722 yet, but I will post an update when I do. I can't imagine it is all that different from the 4700.

I believe the 4722 is basically the 4700 receiver packaged with dish 500 setup, as is most of the other models that end in '22'. If you buy it stand alone it is referred to as a 4700, 4900, 3800, etc
