After reading all the threads, it seems most are leaning toward the Pronto. I'm not sure it's worth spending $300 on a fancy channel changer. I think the SL9000 sounds like it will fit my needs as the poorly designed remote that came with my Yamaha A1092 amp will not fill my control needs. Is it really worth the extra bucks for the Pronto?.

I can't speak for the pronto but I've been very happy with my SL-9000 and at $89 it was far less than the pronto.

Well, those 2 remotes are in entirely different classes.
I can not speak for the SL9000, but I own a pronto. I would think your main concern should be what suits you more, physical buttons without configurability, or a touch screen which is completely customizable. Obviously the price is a big difference too.
BTW, call the pronto a fancy channel changer is almost analagous to call a Palm Pilot a fancy calender, or a computer a fancy rolodex. It can be so much more.

The Pronto is a fantastic remote, but it is quite "deluxe". Not everyone needs (or at least, doesn't see the need) all the features it comes with. The SL9000 is an excellent learning remote with good backlighting and lots of buttons. It's not idealy suited to DVD control, but for everything else you'll probably be more than served. My only concern is that, due to its numerous buttons, it's not well suited to the entire family.

Thanks for all your responses. I was just kidding about the fancy C.C. I do prefer having buttons, but my biggest problem with my last two have been teaching everyone else how to use them. I just bought my first dvd player, so I'm not quite up on the controls yet. I think I'll take another look at them at the local hi fi shop and make my choice. Thanks.

I am still on the fence with these things. I have read Daniels reviews and I have looked at all of them at the store. Now I'm curious about the Marantz RC2000mkII. How does that compare with the SL9000. I could not find it in any store and Daniel does not have a review here (just picture). Is this one outdated? I may still buy the Pronto, although it may be the best I get the feeling it is an unfinished product and alot of bucks to spend on something I would have to replace when it is updated. I think spending the hundred bucks for one of the lesser models now ,then upgrading to the next version of Pronto may be the way I'm leaning. Any thoughts?
