I changed my batteries for the first time and when i did i lost all of my programming. The book says it should hold it for an hour it only took me 10 sec to change the batteries. Is there something wrong with it?

If you have a Mark I RC2000, the unit goes back into the RC-5 mode, with all of its default codes. If you take a pin or a nail, and gently press down on the green button labeled "Mode" the unit will go from "NAME" to "RC-5" to "USE". "Use" contains all of the commands you programmed in.

As you main soon discover, the RC2000 is a real battery hog. I have two sets of rechargable AA batteries, which I rotate between the RC and the recharger. I have a short piece of wound metal guitar string that I kept in a loop of tape to the inside of the battery door. I simply slide the string out to change the unit back to "Use" mode whenever I change batteries, and then pop it back into the loop of tape before I close the battery door. You can substitute a short length of electrical wire, or something similar if you don't have a guitar string handy.
