We recently had to "upgrade" our Direct TV DVR that we'd had for 3-4 years. Before that, the pronto worked perfectly with our old Tivo based dvr. The only change we can see is the new Direct TV dvr is no longer Tivo. But since we got this new dvr, the pronto won't work consistently. We had programmed icons to send multiple channel singles and this works unless you have a channel with two of the same number (ex. 277 won't work but 278 is fine). Also the channel up and down buttons scroll repeatedly or won't work at all (we get the message "channel unavailable"). So we have placed an "enter" key after 277 in the pronto software and still it doesn't work. Same goes for any similar channels....233, 244, 255, etc. The frustrating part is none of it is consistent...what works one minute won't the next. We did re-learn the pronto buttons with the new remote. Anyone come across a similar problem? What's the fix?

You need to put a delay between each digit i.e. 2 7 7.

You are lucky it worked previously.

Please read the FAQ - it is all in there.

We tried on channel 277 to add delays...we added .5 second delay between each number. Specifically:

2
delay .5
7
delay .5
7
delay .5
enter

And still no luck. When we push the icon for that channel, the 2 gets entered 3 or 4 times, then the 7 repeats, etc. We changed it to a .10 second delay and it didn't repeat as bad but still didn't work.

What FAQ are you referring to? We had a pronto tsu 1000 for years and just got this ng 7500 last year. The programming has always worked great and we've never had these kinds of problems (though this is only our second dvr box).

Don't know what's going wrong. 0.5 seconds should be OK. You could try longer delays. There might be something specific to do with Direct TV. There are lots of posts on Direct TV, so there may be an issue. Try a search.

The link to the FAQ is on this page. You should also look at the FAQ for the Pronto Classic (i.e. 1000).

You also usually need delays for the 1000.

I don't have the model number off the top of my head, but my parents have a DIRECTV DVR which I setup for them supplied by DIRECTV and the responsiveness of the unit with respects to IR is horrible. When I went online to research the unit I found that most people were having the same problems with respects to IR. The IR receiver of the unit in particular was described as being recessed in such a way as to invite IR problems from the start. After reading this online I decided to try moving the DVR from where I had it to best optimize its ability to receive IR. Originally I had placed the unit on the bottom shelf of my parents A/V cabinet where their old Sony sat receiver used to be. After moving the receiver to the top shelf instead IR responsiveness improved dramatically. It was not even usable before basically. After moving the unit to the top shelf of the A/V cabinet it works half way decent. Not as good as I'd like, but it's definitely useable now. In any event, to make a long story short I would not rule out the DVR as being part of the problem here. Make sure that you do what you can to optimize placement of the DVR, so that the IR you are sending has the best chance of being received by the unit. This will only go to improve your success with respects to sending macros to the DVR via your Pronto.
