I have been setting up my 7500 a little bit at a time for 6 moths and thought I had just missed a few codes but...

I have a problem with Tivo and Mediacenter with buttons that are often pressed several times, i.e. foward/back. I have programmed my mediacenter controls for TV with soft buttons for fwd and back as well as using the hard buttons on the bottom of the screen. Some of these will repeat, ex. jump forward several times, while others will not repeat until another button is pressed. Currently, I have the back working on both the soft and hard buttons with the same learned code. However, while the fwd soft button works multiple times, the hard button will not repeat. I have tried learning the code (which results in the same code), and linking to the same code, but no luck. I do get transmission from the button on repeat but it seems to be sending the wrong codes. I have tried assigning different functions to the button and it will repeat. I am stumpped. I would note that I d/l both the Tivo and the Mediacenter parts from here and both had codes set up that I had multiple problems with on repeat and I managed to solve all but these last couple by using my own learned codes on all the problematic ones.

It's called a 'toggle' code or toggle bit. There's information about this in the Classic Pronto FAQ and longer explanations you can find by searching for +toggle +bit in either this forum or the Classic Pronto Forum.

There's also a Media Center 2004 registry setting that you can do to turn off toggle bits. See here.

Good luck.

not repeat until another button is pressed.

That is the symptom of a "toggle bit" as described above. That is certainly an expected symptom with a mediacenter.

I have the back working on both the soft and hard buttons
with the same learned code. However, while the fwd soft
button works multiple times, the hard button will not
repeat.

But that is certainly not the behavior we would expect from a toggle bit problem. I can't think of any good explanation for those results. Something else beyond a toggle bit problem is involved there. Maybe other actions in the action lists of those buttons, maybe simple user error in the testing process. I don't know.

If you post the Pronto Hex for the signal you're having trouble with, that might give me more of a clue.

Of course if the toggle bit is even a significant part of the problem, then making that registry change may eliminate the symptoms, so you wouldn't ever need to resolve whatever complicating factors are present.

I finally managed to get it to work. It is odd because every place I used the same code but some would work. I went through a re-learned the code for every situation and it nows seems to work. I suspect that I still had some links to a "bad" code that was not working. I found that none of the codes would repeat on the Tivo and Mediacenter setup that I d/l and I had to learn them all. Of course the oddest part is that my learned code did not appear to be any different than the one that would not work.

I will have to look at the "toggle bit" issue.

thanks.
