Hi all,

I have a Philips Pronto RU950 which has hardly been used (but out of warranty). When I tried to use it recently, the backlight would work and the touch screen would respond but no buttons were visible. On the third press on the screen, no matter where you pressed, it would make a low beeping sound (like an error?) whereas the first two presses it sounded ok (high beep).

I've tried a few things (e.g. resetting it) to no avail. Does anyone have any advice on how I can revive it, or know of anywhere I could get it economically repaired? Thanks in advance,

JoshM

Check your battery.

Hi, yes I did that. I have the optional battery pack & charger but also tried normal cells. I'll try again but don't hold out much hope. Thanks for the tip though - is this what normally happens when the batteries start to go, then?

Hi again,

Ok I've opened it up and there appear to be several spots of brown fluid around the internals, specifically at the edges of the LCD. Has this bled from the screen itself and does it indicate that it's breathed its last, or could it just be some lubricant or something?

Cheers, Josh

Did you not had a battery leak? It sounds like rust to me.

Well I'm not sure if the battery has leaked - there are no signs of damage to the battery pack itself (I have been using the rechargable pack). I have tried with dry and wet cells with no difference in behaviour, so if there was a battery leak than I guess it has caused more severe damage?
