I've tried plugging it into the cradle or directly to the pc but it does not seem to be taking a charge (even after 5 hours in both).

I've issued a factory reset - but nothing. Has anyone experienced charging/discharging issues before?

I am a little worried as i purchased this in the US and am based in the UK. The device is only a couple of months old.

Is it normal for the menu to not function as it should/home keys to not function correctly if the power is low on the unit?

Will the USB plug charge the device if connected directly and not via the cradle?

No lights are showing on the cradle when the unit is plugged into it but the pc pick it up fine its just PE refuses to download or upload as it keeps telling me the battery is too low.

Help!!!

Your thoughts?

Just to add to the post. There is deffo power going into the dock. I am not seeing any blue lights or anything indicating that it is charging. The custom screen downloaded to the device previously does not show the battery indicator so its impossible to see if it is charging. I have a voltmeter and would like to see if there is voltage on the pins. Does any one know how I can test the cradle to see if it is working correctly or not? Is there a way you can see if the unit takes a charge when plugged directly into the pc?

From my limited experience with the 7500, the only way to charge the unit is via the dock; you cannot charge it via the USB.

Basic troubleshooting skills would tell me to check the dock for power output and if that proves favorable to try another batttery.

If you have a multi meter, you may want to check the pins on the dock to see if there is DC power coming out. I am at work right now or I would check mine to see which pins actually output the power - sorry.

If you are getting power from the pins on the dock then you may have a bad battery (that won't take a charge).

If somone else hasn't responded with the proper pinout of the dock by the time I get home from work, I will check myself and update this thread. It will probably be a little late for you since you are roughly 6 hours ahead but at least it will be an answer. :)

Good luck.

I've taken the dock apart and its clearly been worked on before. The charge socket has a motherload of solder all over it and it looks like the copper circuit board for the center point of the plug has physically come away from the circuit board. I've put another motherload of solder on and the blue light is now on and its charging (phew).

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement circuit board for the dock?

Ebay or buy a 3500 dock from Philips's parts center. There was once a link in a post in the Classic Pronto Forum. Search for +philips +parts

Be sure to have a power supply unit which supports the correct Volts the pronto needs. Don't know for the 7500, but my 3000 used 6V.
I had the same problem, when my universal remote was not set at 6V.

Thanks for the heads up ... Do I have the correct charger? The docking station is a Philips DS7500 with an input voltage of 12V DC at 400mA. The Philips remote is a TSU7500/17 with an input voltage of 4.8V DC 300mA. I was nder the impression that the base unit charger converts the 12V to 4.8V. Can you confirm I have the right charger and it is setup correctly? (It is what came out of the box!)

Thx.

Paul.

Just test it, use the settings that is stated in the techlabel on the back of the pronto.
When having the Volts set wrong, the remote seems to load fine, but is not loaded even after a few hours.

Thanks Falcon. Not sure how to "test it". The tech label on the back of the cradle says 12v. On the back of the TSU7500 it says 4.8v. Is that correct? The Cradle is a "DS7500". Is this the right cradle for the 7500? It does seem to be charging okay now but I have noticed the problem of "not loading after a few hours" - but that seems to be caused by low battery.

It should be the right cradle. Just set the PSU to the value the tsu7500 mentions and place it in the dock for loading a few hours.
I will receive my own 7500 the next days which will replace my 3000 (with unresponding touchscreen), and I will report about that again, as I will need to use an alternative power supply here in germany.

AVCS,

If stepped on your toe, I am sorry.
I was just trying to give hope.
I am a long time browser, new member. I have seen other members gave similar info for years.
If what I did is a "NO NO" I wont anymore.

I don't own the site so don't place all that I say as "law". You might want to check with Daniel Tonks who does. Send him a RemoteCentral mail to see if your post is acceptable.

With regard to others posting plugs for their services...

Dave D'Arche plugs the Ultimate Pronto Guide at times and he does pay for advertising on this site.

Other members my plug a product but typically if they plug their own product or services, IMO, they should be willing to foot the bill for advertising on this site.
