OK, if you know nothing about or don't care about Yamaha A/V receivers and their IR codes, there is no need to read further.

If you're still reading, here we go...

I am trying to get extended IR codes for a Yamaha HTR-5630 into a TSU3000. (These DSP's are driving me crazy.) The DSP codes are toggles on the remote. I want to go to a specific DSP when I go to specific channels on DirecTV (i.e. - ESPN - a sports DSP, HBO - a Cinema DSP). I also want to be able to scroll through the DSP's when I need to. I tried the Yamaha IR Code handbook, but the remote for my receiver does not support the steps required to get the extended codes. After searching and searching, I finally e-mailed Yamaha and asked about the codes. I received the following reply:

“We do not have the extended IR codes for that receiver available, you may want to try the RX-V450. Some of them may work. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us at our toll free Customer Support line. 1-800-292-2982 Hours: Monday Thru Friday 8 AM to 4 PM Pacific time. Sincerely, Ken

OK, not much to go on, but closer than when I started. No files for RX-V450 (or 550, 650, 750 - which seem to use the same codes) in CCF or PCF on Remote Central.

I go to Yamaha's site a take a look at the code sheets for RX-V450 (550, 650, 750). Most of the functions I am looking for seem to match up, but I don't know how to write a custom IR code from the data they provide (7-A-1-D).

I investigate further and realize the RAV Edit files are ccf's. I download a RAV Edit file, RXV1_DSP, and open it in ProntoEdit. (I could have imported it into ProntEdit NG, but bear with me here.)

So, taking a look at one DSP function, "Mono Movie".
Code sheet says: 7E-F7. I look at the ccf file, read the IR code,

9001 0000 0000 0001 007e 00f7

Cool, I think I see the pattern. I copy the file to the clipboard and paste it into my pcf file in ProntoEdit NG. I close out the ADD IR CODE box and the re-open it only to see this:

900A 006D 0000 0001 7E81 F708

OK, NG altered my code slightly. Is it a RAV Edit to Pronto thing? Is ProntoEdit NG smarter than ProntoEdit. Is CCF code different than PCF code? So, my questions are:

1.)Is this edit of the code by NG OK?

2.)Am I on the right track here - I admit that I haven't tried the codes on the receiver yet - I will tonight. That may answer a lot of my questions. I will report in on the degree of success.

3.)Is there an easier way? I am I working to hard.

4.)What is the secret to simply writing the IR code?

As you may have guessed, I am not quite a noob when it comes to this, but I only have enough knowledge to make me dangerous.

Get this program to generate the codes:

Protocol for Yamahas is NEC1.
7E-F7 means:
Device 7E = 126
Function F7 = 247
