When I press the "i" button on the remote and learn the code it changes with each press. First time it sends a code for a non repeating transmittion, and the next time it transmits a code for a repeating transmittion and this alternates with each press. The length of the first press seems to have the repeating part attached even though the header sais there isn't one.

When I play back with the Pronto sure enough the first code will not repeat even if I hold the button but the second will.

Am I getting confused? Is this normal behaviour? Could someone explain why it does this?

p.s. here are the codes

'i' first press (and 3rd, 5th, 7th......)

0000 0071 0064 0000 0080 0041 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0AAB 0080 0041 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0041

The original remote sends the same sequence over and over as long as you hold it pressed. This particular remote sends an unusually long sequence, so that a short press is few copies of the sequence.

The Pronto tries to detect the repeat pattern, but it might fail for various reasons, including seeing too few copies.

In your first sample above, there are exactly two copies and the Pronto didn't see the pattern, so it recorded exactly what it saw in will play back exactly two copies every time the signal is used.

In your second sample above, the Pronto saw multiple copies and detected the pattern, so it stored only one copy but with an inication that it is one copy of a repeating pattern, so that the number of copies sent when you use that signal will vary depending on how you use it.

it LOL

After reading John's posts assiduously for years, I still don't get it. I have a Masters in EE which is clearly worthless.

I read up on the "tips and tricks" for learning commands so I tried again but this time held the button down for the duration of the learning and now the command is always learnt as a single press command and is learnt consistantly the same.

Which, to be absolutely clear means that if this code is used in a button either via linking or direct access and there are no other entries in the Action List being executed( multiple entries indicate a Macro), the code will be transmitted repeatedly as long as said button is pressed.
