Half of the buttons (input device options) on a new receiver won't learn.

All of the codes that get learned are only a few blocks and they are all the same for all the buttons and none of them work.

When I hit the button on the YAMAHA remote to send it, it comes in two bursts. first one followed by about a 1/2 second pause then the second.

The problem is I think the remote learns the first chunk and stops. I have tried it over and over again.

How do you learn the whole thing? Can the learning timing be changed at all?

Thanks

I'm not sure, but you might try learning the two "bursts" into separate buttons; learn the second burst by putting your hand over the emitters in the sending remote for the first burst and then removing it in time to capture the second burst. When sending commands from the Pronto you'll have to piece together the two buttons in a macro, perhaps with a delay between them.

Well I think the little blinking light when the burts happens may or may no be in synch with the actual sending so this method could be problematic, but I will give it a try. The first burst is the same for all of them so that one will be easy.

Is there a utility out there that will read either an IR port on the laptop or handheld and show the hex recieved in like a 3 second send?

It seems like half of the non-learners are 2 bursts (2 seconds) and the others are 3 bursts (3 seconds).

Thanks

You have many ways to go to resolve your problem:

First, search this forum for threads that discuss how to imnprove your chances of imprving the learning process.

Second, there are lots of pcfs in the files here that include Yamaha equipment. See if you can find the codes you need and forget the learning.

Third, Yamaha publishes its codes, and is better at it than just about any manufacturer. You can get them off the Yamaha web sites. Read through the many threads here on Remote Central that describe how to do that.

Fourth, if you post a list of your Yamaha equipment by model number, maybe some nice person will email you codes you need.

Thanks for the suggestions, I had already been through them.

It's a new model and Yamaha doesn't have them available yet.

That did the trick. On the tripple pulse buttons it took some serious patience but I got them all. I made 3 pages dropping off buttons as I went, so on the "burst03" page there's only 7 buttons left.

I admire your patience. Glad I could help.

I thought I once spotted a device that could capture IR data, maybe even on this forum. You might try a forum search.

The product you are referring to is by Global Cache - GC-IRL and a link can be found here. If memory serves, Julie posted about it when it first came out and I've gotten one. It rocks. :)
