You can change the setting to hide extensions under Tools->Folder Options...

Look in the Advanced Options folder in the tree displayed on the 'View' tab.

Personally, I enable options to show all extensions and System Files. As an engineer, I need these things on. However, the typical Windows User may not need to change these.

Ha ha Lyndel...me too as an engineer. I can't stand not being able to see all the info.

I too am an engineer. Not a coincidence?

Thanks for the tip on displaying the file extension. I was looking in all the wrong places.
