Don't let it drive you crazy, my hard button labels are in a constant state of flux lately. Some vanish, some reappear, some go from caps to a different smaller size and vice-versa, somewhat like a superscript, whenever I pick up the remote I never know quite what will be there... at least the IR functions assigned work properly. Looks like more "add a feature or fix something, and break something else" is still the rule here. At least this error is very mildly annoying, sometimes I'll switch to a different device to see how, in seemingly random order, the hard-button labels will show - for now! In the software all the labels appear to be perfect. Right now on the rightmost button I have "play" for my cable box recorder and have tried text, or the play arrow symbol, same button you are having trouble with and usually the text changes in size on the leftmost and next two buttons, and vanishes on the rightmost, only to reappear now and then. Do our Software Engineers and Beta Testers have any ideas? I wouldn't call Philips customer support, from my last call they don't know there is a TSU-7000 that had a full year guarantee and were rather hostile when I read it to them.

Well after the label problem drove me crazy for the last two hours,i came up with a solution. I made four buttons for the firm labels,or buttons and copied over ,where the regular labels would be and then droppped them into my pages where i needed and it works fine, but what a headache trying to get the 4th firm button to label and having to bandaid the problem.

Today, for no reason, of course, the device I use most (Moto 6412 cable box) came up with all the right hardbutton labels in the LCD display, including button #4. Last night, #4 was not appearing, never, ever. If I redownload my config, it comes back - for a little while; then the hard button labels get strange again (#4 vanishes, the other three vary between font sizes).
I know this is boring for everyone, but I tried to search for solutions and even think I remember this being addressed before, but can't find anything. In the big picture it's no big deal, but at the same time this is a fairly high-end remote that should have a stable display. Ourbail's solution is to cover over the LCD area with a panel and drop buttons in the space above the hard buttons... however I'd like to know if there is something else causing this (latest firmware/editor), TSU-7000 remote. I really like this remote and reading up on the others, it seems to enjoy high regards, but this hard-button label error must exist somewhere out there in XML land - or is it the firmware? Philips - please read these messages!

Forget everything I said in this post, grrrrr. Yes, I was behind one firmware/software revision, and yes, my hard button labels were all corrected upon the first several uses. On about the 6th activation of the remote, 4th button label blank again, the rest upper and lower case strangeness. So, in spite of my being behind one revision, the new one didn't fix the problem.

Probems with firm buttons are a long standing tradition with Philips going over several versions of software. I thought the newest version (0ne that makes macros not work properly.) had finally fixed the hard button labeling. My memory is that the most problems with hard labels occur when people use symbols rather than text. For example, I used to have buttons labeled with arrows. After many months of use, these buttons suddenly lost their labels. I solved the problem by using "FF" for arrows that indicated fast forward and "BB" for arrows that indicated fast backwards. If your lables are symbols, try replacing them with letters.
Philips software is starting to be a joke. I would like to get a 7500 but fear that unit with its buggy firmware will result in my macros not working. I'm going to have to look to see if something other than a Pronto will allow me to generate complex macros and use the great SNL program for my CD collection.

Same thing here--the label for Firm4 changes from >> to a small square, then back again. Latest firmware didn't help. Very frustrating!

Just for any browsers, I have had no problem labeling firm buttons on the 7500 using symbols or letters.

I put the functions on the system page as labels (yes, it eats a liitle of the screen), then assigned the commands to each firm button as "jump" commands. I've had no problems with this config and have been using it for months.
