Hi all
Perhaps another newbie question for you all?
Why do some config file have template devices that appear similar to "true" device files?
What is their use and implementation?

Thanks

Nic

To my knowledge, the "templates" are just other pages which have been indicated as templates. As a template they are color coded differently, in the tree-view within PENG. I guess someone could have added codes or whatever and left them as templates. To my knowledge, it does not make any difference.

the template concept, as far as I know is just a way to high-light certain devices as being templates to be used in your development process. I guess these could beconsidered a "clean" Page or Devices, almost like a master copy in Word, which you plan to use and modify and save as a different file name later.

Hey Nic,

Man - I have tried to follow that thread and it makes my head spin. I have never had such a problem, even with doing a zillion configs and remediations for clients, on old Pronto Edit, NG and Pro NG.

What is up with that disappearing thing? Corruption? Gremlins? Harmony sent a virus..hehee - just kidding! Don't send me emails!

Thanks for the nice comments on The Ultimate Pronto Guide.

PS - I think the templates when indicated as such in the tree view do not show up in the config, like they are hidden devices, as well as my previous post.

I think that you may find that if you mark a device as a Template and download the PCF to the remote, when you want to create a new device using the remote, the device you flagged as a 'template' will be an option. Hence, the name 'template'.
