Suddenly it seems like it takes longer to change screens when I press a button. Am I wrong, or could something suddenly be slowing up the Pronto? I have made no recent changes.

Yes I agree and mine keeps locking up and needs a reset. I particularly find the "browse backward" very slow.

If your remote keeps locking up download and install the latest firware "twice" in a row. Don't just download the firmware to the remote once. Once usually won't do it.

This used to be a problem with my TSU7000. Downloading the firmware to the remote twice was the only thing that would do the trick. Since the firmware before last came out, my TSU7000 stopped locking up however.
