Any insider news from Philips on when (or if) there will be another firmware release for the 3000? I'm considering switching to another remote if we don't get full control over the hard buttons.

I wish they'd give us a straight answer. Are there any 3000 changes in the pipeline or not? It's a simple question. Regardless, they've already lost me as a future customer.

Dear Pronto NG users,

A new firmware update for the TSU3000 / RU950 will be available within a month.

The firmware will include:
  • USB communication improvement: more reliable and faster due to optimised protocol.
  • IR duration setting. This will also be incorporated in the next TSU7000 firmware:
you can now set how long a certain ir code is send which leads to improved reliability of getting the code to certain devices. Devices that need a longer IR code such as certain brands of projectors can now be controlled.
  • Faster gallery loading.
  • Improved RF protocol with current hardware: Increased reliability of the RF performance to control devices through the RFX.
  • Improved IR code scrubber, including Windows MCE support.

regards
The ProntoTeam

Thanks for the answer, but i am sorry to see that we still can't get full control of the hard buttons. It would be usefull to be able to set backlight on a per-button basis and even better, according to pages.

...maybe in the future! ;)

I'd just like to have the hard buttons (4) below the screen send ir on the first press, we've been asking for this for 2 years now, its a little lame that its not fixed yet.

The planned changes are very cool, especially the duration option, but this fix would please a lot of people.

Thanks for the info , ProntoTeam, but I'm very dissapointed yet again that the not all of the hard buttons activate on first press. I've had my RU950 remote for over eighteen months, and I still hate having to press some of the hard buttons once and some of them twice, unless the lcd is on. Please, please make all of the hard buttons activate on first press, or at least make it configurable.

I know a lot of users have been complaining about having to double press some of the hard buttons, but for me the much bigger issue was when Philips shortened the IR send times in the last major firmware release in an attempt to improve overall speed. This forced many users (myself among them) to backtrack to the previous firmware (and editor) release just to maintain basic functionality. Philips' notes on the release indicate that they will be providing control over the IR send times. If this solves the problem many of us have been having, it is far more significant (at least for me) than having to press a button a second time. What is even more significant is that the new release signals that Philips has not abandoned the 3000, but is continuing to support it. Let's give them some thanks and encouragement for this, at least. As a multiple user (I have 5 3000's) I'm happy to see the 3000 hasn't been consigned to the graveyard.

Daniel, if you look at the XML, you will find that it was in there from day 1. Now they are finally doing something with it.

Yes, thanks for another 3000 update, ProntoTeam. I'd still like to know whether the remaining double-press buttons are not being addressed because it's not a priority, or because it's hard-wired and can't be fixed with firmware. If it's the latter, we'll probably stop griping about it.

The latest firmware update for the TSU7000 gives you the functionality you are looking for. I would certainly imagine that functionality is possible with a firmware update for the TSU3000 as well.

With my TSU7000 I have set both the firm keys and cursor keys not to activate the screen at all when pressed. The only time this setting is ignored is if a given hard button invokes a page navigation. In this case the screen is activated just prior to the page navigation taking place which is sweet!

This does not apply to the TSU3000, but I love being able to turn off the pickup sensor as well. If I want to force the screen to activate I simply use the page down button on the left side of the remote. Those page up/down buttons still activate the screen only on first button press if the screen is not already activated.
