I recently moved into a new house, and to turn on the fireplace through an I/R remote, they want 100 dollars for the remote. I was wondering if there was anyway I could use the tsu 3000 to turn the fireplace on and off? Has anyone used it for this purprose? I suppose i would need to get the code from the fireplace company. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

I have mine set up for turning the fireplace on and off. Although you will have to buy a receiver and remote to wire in to your fireplace. Most of these are retail for $100+. I was lucky and was in Lowe's one day after installing my new logs, and saw a closeout on 3 remotes and 3 sensors for $33 each set. The only thing about the pronto is that it doesn't have a way of controlling the fireplace by temp as the OEM remote does. The OEM remote has a thermostat built in that shuts the fire off at a set temp. But it is cool to be watching a movie and just reach over my back and turn on a fire.

Have you looked in the files area to see if anyone has posted a PCF or CCF for your fireplace? That will give you the codes you need.

A guy came to my house and apperantly told my wife I would just need the remote, I assume it has a sensor.

No i did not find any files, but I did a search for fireplace.

I was hoping if I could find the code to control the fireplace from the company I would not need an expensive 100 dollar remote.

Without more information, it's unlikely anyone can help you. A brand name and model number might help.

Some fireplace controls are IR but many are RF. If it's IR and you can get the codes, you can probably control it. If it's RF, it's unlikely to use the same RF frequency as the TSU3000 (418MHz) but, even if the frequencies are the same, you would need the OEM remote and additional hardware to learn the codes.
