hi
I have a new rf extender and it isn't working. the red light does not flash at all. can someone who has one help please?

I looked at it through my digital camera, and it is constantly sending out infra red. is this normal?

is it normal for a pronto told to send on rf to also send ir? mine is doing this.

thanks in advance

Bob

i should also say that i have disconnected my wireless network to eliminate that as a potential source of interference. although the manual says that if there's interference, the red light will keep flashing.

How do you know it is not working? What have you done to tell your Pronto to use RF?

What is constantly sending out IR - your Pronto or the Extender?

i know its not working because a) the red led does not flash, and b) none of the commands get to the tivo when the cabinet door is closed (but they do when the door is open and the ir gets to it).

i told the pronto that the device in question (tivo) was on rf; both in prontoedit and (to be sure) on the pronto itself.

the extender is the one constantly sending ir

Have you tried holding the Pronto a few centimetres from the extender.

I occasionally have the extender not responding (i.e. red light not flashing) but it works up close. A few minutes later it works fine. Last night it was doing this all the time. I ddisconnected the power for a few minutes, then it was OK again.

could someone with an extender just check this for me please?

look at it through your digital camera. is it constantly transmitting ir?

look at your pronto while controlling an rf device. is the pronto sending out it too?

thanks in advance

It should not be doing this. If it is, you probably have something that is constantly sending 433.92MHz RF.

look at your pronto while controlling an rf device.
is the pronto sending out it too?

If you had done a search you would find where Daniel Tonks checked this. The Pronto sends one or the other but not both simultaneously.

Eliminate any 2.4GHz equipment (phones and WiFi - base and handset or router and ethernet cards - both ends). Also, avoid having the unit close to a DVD player. Those are the most common causes of interference.

ok, here's the solution

until the rf extender receives it's first rf command from a pronto, it DOES constantly send (or seem to send) ir. once it receives an rf signal, it stops.

we didn't send an rf signal to it because (stupidly) we were linking to ir codes on another device (device b) and we'd told it device a (the one with the buttons we were pressing) was rf. once we said device b was rf, it worked.

thanks for the help

PS I *did* do a search initially, but searching for rf problem came up with nothing
