I'm looking for some advice. I currently own a Philips Pronto TSU-6000 with a wireless extender. I've had it well over a year and gave up trying to program it 2 months after I got it. It’s been collecting dust. The main reason I gave up on it was because of the response time between pressing the touch screen. The delay drove me nuts! I couldn’t stand it.

So the reason I'm posting here is to ask people who have used these remotes before their opinion before I fork over several hundred dollars for what may become another paperweight.

What I'm looking at now is one of the following...

1. Home Theater Master MX-3000

2. Sony Navitus RM-NX7000

Or

3. Philips Pronto TSU-7000

As I said before I would have stayed with the TSU-6000 if there weren’t such a delay when switching screens and such.

Does the TSU-7000 have the same faults as the TSU-6000? Did they speed up the system with a faster processor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Zabo

P.S. Just a little background… I’m trying to control a Sony ES Receiver, Sony 300 disk DVD changer, a Sony Tivo, and a Sony VCR. I also have a computer setup that displays to a Sony bigscreen.

Zabo,

The 7000 is a considerable upgrade, from a screen perspective. Very, very nice. Philips has also been improving the 7000 firmware and the PC application, PPENG. I am very happy with my 7000. It is still not perfect nor equal to the original oem remote when it comes to "ir delay", but it has improved significantly in the past few months. One major thing which has been discovered: Eliminating the Pronto Icon from the 7000 config has improved the ir delay quite significantly. Again, it is not quite equal to the oem remotes but it has improved quite a bit, such that it is much more acceptable.

Good Luck!

Has anyone had the chance to play with the Sony Navitus RM-NX7000 and the Philips TSU-7000? I think the Sony and the Philips are my best bet. But not having the ability to play with them both before I buy makes me hesitant. From what I hear about the Sony Navitus RM-NX7000, the battery life is horrible. Some people even say one hour of heavy use drains it dead. That’s also not acceptable.

Thanks again for any advice!

Dave ,
What do you mean when you say, `One major thing which has been discovered: Eliminating the Pronto Icon from the 7000 config has improved the ir delay quite significantly` . Do you mean the activity icon perhaps ??? Because I have mutiple activity icons but I can`t say that I have any delay (perhaps I`m already used to it) ..

Thankx
Ronald

And about a year ago I programmed a 6000 to control two systems, one of which has two plasmas and two audio paths, plus a house system with Xantech IR controlled volume controls for the rooms.

No delays have EVER been a problem.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Roonie, some people don't like how long it takes some macros to execute. Removing the activity icon reduced the time.

Of the three choices, I would choose the TSU7000. The MX-3000 is probably very good, but unless you know someone, it will be hard to find for under $999, while the TSU3000 can be had brand new for around $650 and refurbed for $525. The Navitus is something of a mystery product. It is not clear that Sony is committed to it. Very few dealers are carrying it. Check out the Sony forum on Remote Central and Sony's own web site. Mentions of the Navitus are few and far between, although the few who have mentioned it on Remote Central leave a favorable impression.

Finally, you have the BEST tech support in the world for the TSU7000 right here!

Well I just picked up a TSU7000 from CDW today! I expect to have it in my hands in a few days!!! I'll let you all know what I think!

Ernie Bornn-Gilman -> The "delay's" I'm talking about happens when you switch from one device to another, such as to, when the unit loads a new screen. To me, it just takes too long for a device that cost's as much as it does.

Thanks all,

Zabo

Roonie,

Yes, I did not explain myself as well as I could have. It has been determined the Activity Icon seems to us up a lot of cycles, thus slowing the entire process significantly. By removing the Activity Icon, many have seen signifiacnt speed improvements. The only problem I have discovered is without both parts of the Activity Icon, one cannot get to the syetem menus without it. I guess the fix is to leave the icon of the Pronto which does not do anything and get rid of the one which "flashes". This is apparently the one which uses a lot of time cycles. With the static one still there, you should be able to hold for 3 seconds to get to the system menus.

Hope this helps!

Has anyone had the chance to play with the Sony
Navitus RM-NX7000

I shop owner loaned me a Navitus to play with. I am developing a comparison table between it and the 7000.

Navitus Pluses: Much better hard button layout. Much better documentation. Lower MSRP ($800 vs $1000).

Minuses: Smaller screen and less usable screen real estate. Non-existent support from Sony. As a new product, there is no library of pcfs like those available for the 7000 and a body of support info like that on this forum doesn't exist.

Battery life shouldn't be an issue. Has an excellent charging system including both a cradle and a live plug that enables one to run the unit plugged into a wall socket while it is charging.

The pre-programmed screens are reasonably complete for lots of devices, but are unimaginative. Should be good for the average commercial installer, but way too simple for hobbyists.

Anthony, I did not do a serious battery test, but I had it off the cradle for 4 hours and it was still functional. Battery life is much less of an issue with this remote than the Pronto. The charging cradle has a much more convenient design - no need to "latch" the unit to make electrical contact. You simply lay the unit on top of the cradle. The power supply cord plugs into either the cradle or the unit itself. In the latter configuration, the unit is powered directly from an AC outlet so that it can be used (with a cord attached) while it is recharging. In other words, a user will never have to wait for a recharge to use the Navitus.

thanks for the info. just wanted to add that I have used the Pronto many times while it was on the doc, so even though the direct power cord might be more convenient if your Pronto is discharged you can just use it directly on the charger
