To all those who posted owning a Pronto 3000--
How is the battery life? What is the life you
get with typical usage. For example, what kind
of life would you get if you used your components
3-4 hours each day?

On the net I keep coming across battery life issues.
Like the Pronto 3000 needs new batteries every
2 days or less???

Thanks.

I use rechargable batteries (would cost a fortune otherwise) they last 2-3 days. Appalling really, but I've got used to it.

I've had a TSU 3000 with a charger going for over a year now. The battery lasts me about 3-5 days depending on usage, but it rarely gets to a point where it runs low anyway because when I'm done with it at the end of the day, I put it on the charger which is placed in a convenient location.
Extension cord + small table next to sofa = No low battery problems.

Just a word on battery life, I believe when Crit1 said the charger was not an option, he meant the charger isn't an option, it is a must. I've got a Neo, 1000, and a new 3000. Neo & ts1000 are like Hondas compared to the H2 TSU3000. While programming this 3000 (I have no charger) I'm burning through a set of duracells every 2-3 days. She's a better device than I've used before, but a hungry device she be.

I replaced a 2000 with a 3000 and I'm very happy with it. The screen is marginally better (16 grays vs. 4) but it's still not pretty. Nonetheless I couldn't justify the huge price increase for the 7000 just for a prettier screen. I reckon I'll buy one on E-bay for $200 in a few years and use the 3000 in another room. :)

And yeah, the battery charger is definitely a must. I charge mine every night so it's not an issue, but I figure it couldn't go more than a couple of days otherwise. In contrast my 2000 would go for about a month.

I started out a few years ago with a 2000, and I can honestly say the screen on the 3000 is much nicer than the 2000. I have a 7000 in my HT, and it is AWESOME. If you have the cash, go for a 7000. I have the 3000 in my bedroom's system, and it is very good for that system, as it is mostly used with the lights off, and the screen shows up great in the dark. It is harder to see in the daylight. I almost sent it back because initially I didn't like the screen. After I configured it with ProntoEdit, the buttons I selected showed up much better than the default buttons.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Mark

Oh, I forgot, battery life is not an issue as long as you buy the optional charger/rechargable battery. Just put it on the charger every day or so.

I have had my 3000 for a year now and my batterys last at least a month. I use my remote at least 3 to 4 hours everyday and all day on Saturday and Sundays. Maybe mine is the exception?

I think you will be much happier with a 7000 than a 3000 because of the screen. You can buy a used or refurbished 3000 with charging base for around $200 and a used or refurbished 7000 for around $500. If you opt for the 3000, make sure you have the chance to see the screen in your own setting with the kind of lighting you are likely to use. If you are happy with the screen contrast/brightness, then the 3000 will probably suit you OK.

the only negative 2000 vs. 3000NG

the volume up/down, mute and ch+/- not more strongly defined as hard buttons
I liked that about the 2000, miss it on my 3000

Yes you must get the charger, no question, this thing eats batteries.
