I just got my pronto! I'm wondering if my unit is not functioning correctly though. It takes about 30 seconds to come on after I touch the screen or one of the buttons. After about 8 seconds The button lights come on. at 10 seconds it has one long Beep and the button lights go off. at 20 seconds I get a philips pronto screen and at 30 seconds it turns on and goes to the home screen.

Is this normal?

I had the same thing happen to me. I took it back and got another one and have had no problems. They say it was some kind of a short to the battery that made it think it was doing a reboot everytime.

Well Uncles Stereo Strkies again! I was afraid that was the case. The box wasn't shrink wraped so I thought that it might have be a returned unit. Thats what you get for ordering from a suspect outfit. I'll call philips tomarrow and see If I can get it replaced from them oh well. No hopes of reparing it my self I suppose.

To expedite your situation, hang out for the software a bit longer as the problem may just be a sime corrupted cinfig file which is easily corrected via ProntoEdit. I presume you tried "defaulting" to factory setup with the same results?

My box didnt actually come shrink wrapped. My unit works great and all the others werent wrapped so I'm assuming that they arent shrink wrapping them - weird...considering you pay $400 for a device...you would think it would be...

Hmmm, the last time I heard someone use "sissies" for an insult I think it was from kids around 12 years old.

Why don't you be a good little boy now and go play in the back yard.

The pronto boxes are not shrink wrapped but the pronto itself is wrapped in one of those fragile foam bags with a paper tape seal. One would have to be especially careful to remove the tape without damaging the bag. If your pronto arrived with the bag and seal intact, it was probably not opened beforehand.

Here's a tip from someone who used to be on the engineering staff of a major online service...

Those kinds of postings are cries for attention, and will only get worse if you respond to them. Generally the poster will pay most attention to the places they get a reaction, and get bored of the places where there's no response. And as you can probably guess, their attention span generally isn't that long...

so my advice is... don't fuel the fire. It'll go out by itself soon enough.

Lefty did apologize, it takes some guts to do that.

I'm surprised Philips doesn't usa a sticker to seal the box. I once owned an Intergraph Voodoo Rush video card which came in very simular packaging, but along the front seam there was a 2" round perminant sticker sealing the box closed - no shrink wrap, but the only way to get in would have been to cut the sticker. It's hard to keep the Pronto on an open shelf (which would work well due to it's good colorful packaging) when customers can simply open it up and fool around with the contents.
