Scott, It was brought to my attention that Lexicon does offer its software to anyone to play with and upon some checking it does seem to be true. I withdraw that comparison.

I hope that it is available for non-registered users. I picked up a Pronto a while back and ended up trashing the box during my xmas cleanup. Unfortunately I did not rescue my serial # and I don't remember if I sent in my registration or not. I am sure that I could probably work something out if I called up the philips tech support, but I am really hoping to be able to just download it for convience's sake.

I'll check into this, but what would make sense to me (as an individual, not with a Philips hat on) would be that you'd need a serial number to receive a free cable ('cos that costs Philips money to process and ship it out), but not if all you wanted was to download ProntoEdit and/or a manual (which only costs bandwidth).
I'd encourage people to register, even without a serial number, so that they will get notified of software updates/upgrades, perhaps nifty accessories, etc.

It makes sense for Philips to not restrict downloading access to ProntoEdit. I cannot think of a better downloadable demonstration than the built in emulator.
