hey everybody,

well i was at a customers house the other day and after a few changes i loaded the 5200 and after it loaded the unit rebooted and the screen went blank. it does beep about every 15 seconds and it shows the bios marantz screen for about half a second then back to nothing i tried to reload but no connection. tried to reset but nothing tried pulling the battery for a short time and a prolonged time but nothing i did have this happen to me many years ago when these came out but i can't remember what happened with the thing to fix it. any help along the way would be appreciated.

You're in a reboot loop. You can try to reflash the firmware, which can take many attempts since you need to catch it at just the right time in the cycle. You can use hyperterminal to connect, see the FAQ: [Link: remotecentral.com]. You can also use Tonto, [Link: giantlaser.com], and under "tools" choose "undead remote" and follow the directions.

The hyperterminal approach NEVER needs many attempts, although I didn't quite understand it at first.

I don't understand why people keep recommending the firmware flash FIRST, then point out, without enough detail, that it is really really picky about when you push the buttons.

I have used the hyperterminal approach many many times. Once I got it, I never had to stand with finger poised to hit the button at just the right millisecond.

I have only one caution for that process: near the end of the process, you will be loading a ccf into the remote, and it will help you to copy some ccf -- it doesn't matter which one -- into the hyperterminal directory so that you can navigate to it during the ten to fifteen seconds given to start the download. You'll see what I mean when you do it.

It just occurred to me that you could also use a ccf in some other location, but you will have to load the entire C:\ etc address into the Windows Copy Command (Ctrl-C) so you can paste it rapidly once your ten second time period starts. Again, you will see what I mean when you do this.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
