I have a post elsewhere begging for Sony Cassette Deck hex codes (thx to those who responded).

Trouble is, they're not working!

My deck is connected to my Sony rcvr via CTRL-S, is there a difference in the codes used to remote control CTRL-S kit?

Ta!

Is "CTRL-S" the same thing as "S-Link"?

There is an IR version of the S-Link protocol documented at [Link: hifi-remote.com]

Control-S needs the Carrier frequency stripped to work with standard sony IR codes.

John,

FYI, I documented this IR-based protocol as well as the checksum and how to calculate as part of the SNLSonyCDSupercharger package available on this site. If I remember correctly, the checksum starts out as 0x1404 and each byte is xored a particular way. I'd have to go back and read my notes but everything you say on the site seems correct, except for maybe a partial checksum algorithm.

I'm very happy to see you have added the other devices ids.

Using this IR protocol, one can do advanced things such as send down a string of characters to name a CD, provide a list of Artists, and Link Artists to Discs for the CX400 and CX450. However, the CX?55 models apparently don't support the Control A-1 via IR. That's what the SuperCharger program did. When I had 2 CD jukeboxes (pre media pc days), I would keep all my information in SNL and then just generate a CCF to name all my discs.

I didn't create nor maintain that site. I only posed a link to it.

Has anyone ever confirmed what happens when a Sony ES-series device (the ones typically featuring CTRL-S / S-LINK) receive only the checksum portion of this type of code?

The checksum portion of the code looks like a regular Sony15 but might decode as device 20 or 23 for example.

I'm curious, because I've seen (generated) examples of Sony codes that fit the above description and have been wonder what, if anything, they actually do in this "partial" state.

If the checksum is not right, the command is ignored. At least that's what I found on the CDP-CX400 jukebox I owned.

I want to find out if there's no preceding command, but only the checksum portion. As mentioned, I've found a bunch of codes that consist of only this portion.

Post some examples, if you don't mind.

Here you go... The originals were repeated three times each. I've posted cleaned Pronto Hex - decode to same Device and Function and same burst pair values.
